The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) said it has mandated heads of tertiary institutions in Nigeria to affix their signatures to indemnity forms submitted by candidates seeking to mainstream their underhand admissions in order to ensure accountability.
A release signed by JAMB’s Head of Public Affairs and Protocol, Dr Fabian Benjamin, Monday, noted that an indemnity form is a security document on admissions which was designed by the Board to authenticate the genuineness of information supplied by candidates.
“Also, the form would also indemnify the Board in the process of granting approvals sought by candidates for certain processes such as condonement of irregular admissions done by tertiary institutions outside the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS), correction of data in the university transfers, application to sandwich and distant learning programmes, among others,” Benjanin said.
He said completing the form and appending signatures by appropriate heads of institutions, would foster accountability.
He noted that the essence of the indemnity is, therefore, to ensure that only genuine candidates are endorsed by respective heads of institutions, as any candidate who gets such endorsement and is later found to be fake, could result in appropriate
sanctions being meted out to the culpable heads of institutions.
