African Judges to visit ECOWAS Court of Justice

A delegation of African court on Human and Peoples’ Rights has scheduled a one-week working visit to ECOWAS Court of Justice from April 29 to May 4, this year.
The delegation, led by its president, Hon. Justice Sylvain Ore, will also meet key Nigerian officials during the visit in Abuja.
In a statement made available to Blueprint in Abuja Thursday, which was signed by the Registrar of African Court, Dr Robert Eno, Justice Ore said “the visit will help to enhance judicial cooperation and share experiences between the two courts.”

He added that the visit is part of the court’s ongoing efforts to strengthen ties with regional courts on the continent, even as he said that a similar MoU was signed by the African court with the East African Court of Justice last month in Arusha.
The statement reads in part: “The reciprocal visit follows the inaugural visit by the ECOWAS Court of Justice to the Arusha-based Court in February last year, during which a Memorandum of Understanding was signed.

“The African court delegation, which includes three judges and senior registrar staff, is expected to pay a courtesy call on P resident Muhammadu Buhari and meet key officials in the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Justice. They will also visit the Nigerian Human Rights Commission, the Nigerian Bar Association and meet NGOs and Civil Society Organizations.”
