After 2 decades, FEDPODAM stages 2nd combined convocation

The Federal Polytechnic Damaturu (FEDPODAM), in Yobe state, Thursday held its second combined convocation for holders of certificate courses, National Diplomas, and Higher National Diplomas after almost two decades.

Rector of the Polytechnic, Dr. Usman M. Kallamu, said the delay in the
convocation was due to the activities of the Boko Haram insurgents who burnt down many structures affecting the academic stability of the institution.

Kallamu, therefore appealed to Federal and state Governments to come to the aids of the school saying it has only 5,716 registered students compared to other polytechnics in the country that have eighteen to 19, 000.

The Special Guest of Honour, Governor Mai Mala Buni, represented by his Deputy, Idi Barde Gubana said, education is the bedrock of every
development that was why the administration of Mai Mala Buni declared
state of emergency on education to improve its output.

Buni, used the forum to appeal to the Minister of Education to give special attention to education in Yobe state with the full implementation of programme, having recorded backwardness due to the insurgency.

The Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu, who was represented by
Executive Secretary, National Board for Technical Education, Dr Masud
Kazaure, congratulated the grandaunts for a successful completion of their studies and urged them to make good use of the opportunities provided by Buhari’s administration.

The convocation also witnessed conferment of fellowship of the polytechnic on some meaningful individuals.
