Again Ex-Ebonyi Rep member empowers over 1000 youth

Not fewer than 1,000 youths from Ohaozara, Onicha and Ivo federal constituency in Ebonyi state have been trained and empowered by the immediate past member that represented the constituency, Hon. Linus Okorie on cassava value chain and horticulture.

The youths and women were empowered by Okorie after a three-day training  at Osborn LA Palm, Ohaozara.

Speaking at the event Dr. Abayomi Akimolaniyo, Executive Director of National Horticulture and Research Institute, Ibadan said the training was to strengthen the agricultural policy of the federal government and improve economy of the nation.

He called on trainees to tap into nutritional and economic value of some crops like cent leafs to improve the economy and their health status.

“The mission is green alternative by President Muhammadu Buhari to improve the economy through Agriculture but we have the mandate for horticultural crop production, utilization to improve the economy of the nation.

“We have been using the technology that we have to impact it on government to improve unemployment situation, foreign exchange earnings and even the nutritional valuable of the people. they are so many crops available in our country that can give people the nutrient requirement that they need.

“We have so many crops that have high nutritional potentials. We here in Ebonyi to empower the women, the youths, and unemployed using telepherial crops which have high nutritional content.

“We have cent leaf, a very high medicinal crop and it is among the ingredients in pepper soup and it is used in preparing pepper soup because of its high medicinal value and its high export potential especially for foreign exchange. So, they are so many value chains right from production to processing and also marketing”, he said.

Okorie who was represented by Ernest Nwafor, one of his legislativenaides said the training which he described as continuous will improve the knowledge of the beneficiaries on horticulture and cassava value chain.
