Again, herdsmen invade Benue communities, ‘kill’ 14

Less than 24 hours after Internally Displaced Persons IDPs killed by herdsmen at Abagena camp were buried Friday, herdsmen militias again attacked Tse Ancha, in Agan located less than a kilometre from Abagena IDP Camp killing ten persons.

This is even as gunmen suspect to be herdsmen Friday night attacked Imande-Abu in Mbayan, Logo Local Government area of Benue State and killed three brothers and a pregnant woman. 

Locals said the victims in Logo were at home taking the night’s rest when the attackers invaded their home killing them in cold blood. 

Meanwhile following the attack, at Tse Ancha, the Executive Chairman of Makurdi Local Government Council, Hon Anthony Dyegeh Saturday morning (22nd May, 2021) visited the scene of the attack for an on the spot assessment and evacuation of corpses and the injured to the Hospital.

Dyegeh while speaking at the scene of the incidence condemned attacks on innocent people of Benue State and called on various security agencies to stand up to their responsibility of securing the lives and properties of the citizens of the State. 

The Chairman confirmed that a total of eight persons, including seven men and a woman were killed while five others were badly injured and have been taken to Benue State University Teaching Hospital, Makurdi, for medical attention.

Also, the Special Adviser to the Governor of Benue State on Security matters, Lt. Colonel Paul Hembah (rtd), who accompanied the Chairman to the scene called the people to stop relying on Federal security alone but stand up to defend themselves and their Lands.

He extended Governor Samuel Ortom’s condolences to the people and pray for peace to return in the state.

It could be noted that at the scene of the attack, an ATM Card bearing Audullayi Sabo with life and empty bullets shells were picked at the scene of the attack.

Reacting to the killing, Member representing Makurdi/Guma Federal Constituency, Hon. Benjamin Mzondu, has strongly  condemned an attack, carried out Friday night, on innocent citizens, at Tse Ancha, in Agan council Ward. 

In a statement, released in the early hours of Saturday the honorable member noted that he was hurt by the attack which claimed not fewer than ten 10 innocent lives in Tse Ancha by the Marulding herdsmen.

He also urged  the security agencies to up their game to halt the incessant attacks on the citizens and return the displaced innocent citizens to their ancestral homes. 

He promised to sustain his efforts to ensure that the  attacks are stopped through viable legislations & engagement with relevant /critical stakeholders in finding a lasting solution to the ongoing annihilation of law-abiding Benue citizens. 

He prayed for the repose of the souls of the victims and asked God to avail their families and relatives the fortitude to bear these losses.
