Hoodlums in black and red attire Tuesday set the Orji Police station ablaze. This was the second time the police station would be set ablaze after the #EndSARS protests.

An eye witness, who spoke to our correspondent, said when the gun-wielding hoodlums numbering over 10 stormed the police station, people around were scared and started running away while some vehicles turned back for safety.

“But the gunmen told them not to panic as they did not come for them. Later, some people started hailing them as they continued with their mission,” he said.

Some minutes after the hoodlums had left, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Elkana Bala, confirmed the incident in a release but added that the attack was repelled and that five of the suspected hoodlums had been arrested.

He further said the station was being reconstructed after the #EndSARS protests’ destruction, but that the hoodlums did not want it reconstructed because they felt its successful reconstruction would stop them from carrying out their nefarious activities. He assured that a mop-up exercise would be done to arrest more suspects.
