Age falsification: Oshiomhole sacks 2 judges, 2, 900 workers

Comrade Adams Oshiomhole of Edo state may have concluded plans to sack over 3, 000 public sector workers following the report of the biometric exercise by the state Information Technology Communication (ICT).
The report indicted the affected workers for health challenges, falsified ages and non-possession of primary six school leaving certificates.
Checks at the government circular on the mass sack to workers yesterday revealed that two magistrates’ court judges and over 300 judicial workers were also affected by the report.

Others also affected included workers of the core-civil service, the state-owned Broad casting service and Nigerian Observers.
Reacting to the development, the state chairman of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Emma Ademokun, said the government’s decision could best be described as a “working document.”

This was just as he handed a 28-day ultimatum to the government to recall the 936 teachers it relieved of their employment last year.
He said: “excluding the judiciary, Edo government has less than 5,000 staff strength in its employment and before the coming of Comrade Adams Oshiomhole’s administration we were about 15, 000.
“As I speak now, we don’t have workers.  And we have been telling the governor to employ. So, for now, I take the sack issue as a mere rumour until government come out with a statement.
“But if it’s true, we know what is best to do. And we are equal to the task.”

When contacted, the Commissioner for Information, Mr. Louis Odion, said the government was yet to release any list to that effect.
Odion, who admitted that the government was verifying workers, said “no decision has been taken to sack anybody.”
