AGF, not Board responsible for NBAIS staff salary payment – Registrar

The National Board for Arabic and Islamic Studies (NBAIS) has debunked allegations that the Board was responsible for payment of staff salary and allowance.
Acting Registrar of the Board, Prof. Muhammad Shafiu Abdullahi, who stated this in an interview with Blueprint in Kaduna on Wednesday, explained that the Board is not responsible for payment of staff salary, noting that it is Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (AGF) that is in charge of paying staff salary.

He was reacting to an allegation by Kaduna based Desert Herald Magazine that the Board is in charge of paying staff salary and allowance.
According to Prof. Abdullahi, NBAIS is operating a Consolidated Research and Allied Salary Scale (CONRAISS) salary scale, which entails direct payment from office of the Accountant General of the Federation and there is no way any staff or management can divert salary and allowance meant for any staff of the Board.

The Acting Registrar also countered an allegation that some staff of the Board were illegally suspended, noting that due process was followed in suspending any staff found guilty, just like any other government organization, ministry, department and agency.
The Acting Registrar tasked journalists and the media to always cross check their facts and figures before publication to avoid defamation or libel and misinforming the public.
