Agriculture: Nasarawa Assembly urges Nigerians to patronise local goods

The Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Wednesday, urged the citizens of the state to patronise locally made goods in order to avoid over dependence on foreign goods.

The chairman House Committee on Agriculture, Dr, Ibrahim Peter Akwe, made the call when the ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources appeared before the committee to defend its 2020 budget.

He said this would also boost the Internally Generated Reveneu (IGR) of the country and enhance food security and economic development.

“Considering the importance of agriculture to societal development if Nigerians can embrace agriculture, it will not only reduce overdependence on oil but will also fight poverty, unemployment, youths restiveness and other social vices as well as will boost food production in the country.

He however, assured of the assembly’s readiness to give agricultural sector the much needed attention it deserved for development of the state.

Earlier, commissioner for agriculture, Prof. Allahnana Otaki, while defending the ministry budget for the 2020 said that the state government is determined towards enhancing food security in the state.
