Federal Capital Territory Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Sunday Zakka Dogo, has expressed delight and satisfaction over the outcome of the party’s primary election concluded in the six area councils last Thursday under the supervision of INEC officials.
Zakka Dogo in an interview with Blueprint said: “As we are speaking, there are no hitches and no disruptions or violence in any area council and the congresses went smoothly.
“Thanks to the security services we contacted and the cool headedness of members. We are now ready for the FCT council elections.”
He commended the maturity exhibited by contestants and their supporters and declared that the success of the primaries showed that PDP has come of age.
At the Kuje Area Council where our correspondent monitored the primaries, incumbent Chairman, Abdullahi Suleiman Sabo, was returned unopposed.
He collected the entire 244 votes cast by the 170 elected and special delegates who attended the congress.
Abdullahi Sabo will complete his first tenure in February and will slug it out at the FCT Area Council elections with arch-rival Abdullahi Danladi of the All Progressive Congress for a second tenure.
In a brief interview at the venue, one of the delegates, Shu’aibu Alhassan, defended the unopposed vote received by the incumbent chairman and said, “he deserved it for performing so well.”
A former Chairman of the PDP in Kuje, Mallam Ajida Yohanna, commended the party members for giving the confidence vote to the serving chairman.
He expressed optimism in the ability of the PDP to defeat the APC in the six area councils to control the administration at the grassroots level in the territory.
In an acceptance speech, Abdullahi Sabo thanked the delegates for reposing confidence in him and promised that the second tenure will be better and more result-oriented than the first.
The APC shifted its congress until Friday after aggrieved aspirants insisted on Option A4 system of voting due to fear that the leadership might encourage preferred contestants to rig the congress election.
