We aim to protect the less privileged – PDO

Administration Officer, Public Defenders Office, a nongovernmental organization, Mrs Rotkang Kyunni, has said the legal outfit is working hard to offer free legal services to the less-privileged in the society and spreading its outreach.
Speaking at a one day sensitisation forum held in Tamburawa village in Dawakin Kudu local government area of Kano yesterday, Kyunni described the NGO as a legal outfit saddled with the task of defending the rights of those who cannot access justice, adding that offering free legal services would serve as an impetus in defending their fundamental human rights. According to her, a lot of water had passed under the bridge as far as trampling on the fundamental human rights of the less-privileged was concerned, pointing out that with the advent of Public Defenders Office, the masses now have ample liberty to access justice without encountering intractable obstacles.
She, however, stated that the organisation is also out to settle disputes relating to marriage by amicably resolving differences among life partners, positing that maltreatment has been partly responsible for the frosty relationship among families She said Public Defenders Office is also saddled with the responsibility of fi ghting drug abuse and genderbased violence cutting across different public strata lamenting that the menace of drug abuse have had a negative repercussions on the society.
Speaking in the same vein, the Village Head of Tamburawa, Alhaji Auwalu Umaru Dantube, said the one day sensitisation forum had exposed the people of the area to the nitty-gritty of accessing justice without impediments, adding that with the team of committed and dogged legal practitioners discharging such responsibility, accessing free legal services is now guaranteed. Dantube, who was represented by the Ward Head of Zango, Alhaji Muhammad Ahmad Waziri, however, stressed that the sensitisation forum had gingered the confidence of the masses and the less-privileged to come to grapple with the fact that violating their fundamental human rights would be met with appropriate legal action.
