Th e provision of any means of transportation is said to be one of the instruments that opens up a particular country, region, state or a place to economic activities and also creates job opportunities. It is in line with this that the Yobe state government has said that eff orts were being made to establish an airport in Damaturu, the state capital. Th e Commissioner for Works, Transport and Energy, Alhaji Lawan Ali Shettima, disclosed this to our correspondent recently in his offi ce. Th is will be done in stages, and we will start with the clearing of the sites and putting down some necessary infrastructure.” He further said the airport when established would not only be benefi cial to Yobe, but to other countries of Tchad, Cameroun and Niger Republic which share borders with Yobe. “Very soon tender in that respect would be opened to interested fi rms in which some would be selected for interview.

“It is worthy to note that Yobe had within the years achieved tremendously in road transportation; therefore, when the airport is being established, it will serve as another milestone in the history of Yobe apart from opening of economic activities in the state.” Some Damaturu residents, Kachalla Lawan and Falmata Goni, told our correspondent that “this is one of the good news of the year” and called on the people to continue to pray for its reality.
