Airport: Passengers in panic mood as fire engulfs Abuja new terminal

Again, fire outbreak on Saturday engulfed the equipment room of the Abuja new terminal, Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport , Abuja .

The fire outbreak occurred at about 3.00 pm and no life was lost.

This came barely weeks after a fire outbreak at the terminal building of Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport in Owerri.

The Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) who confirmed the outbreak, said the incident was however swiftly curtailed by the in-built fire detection and protection system at the new terminal that triggered automatically.

A press statement issued by the General Manager, Cooperate Affairs Henrietta Yakubu, said the building was designed and built with protection system.

According to her, the system came up when it sensed high ambient temperatures and spray fire extinguishing agent.

She however, reassured passengers and the general public that there was no cause for panic, as the incident has been put under control and their fire men have cleared the remnant of powder after which operation resumed.
