Wife of the President, Hajiya Aisha Muhammadu Buhari, has called on Northern women youths who still do not go to school for Western education to enrol in view of the growing global trends.
She made this call yesterday at the closing ceremony of 1,000 trainees of a skills acquisition programme under her NGO, Future Assured, at the multipurpose indoor sports hall, Bauchi, where she pointed out that uneducated people might lose a lot of opportunities in the modern world.
“If you cannot read many opportunities will pass you by,” she cautioned.
Mrs Buhari revealed that before marrying President Buhari, she only had secondary school education, adding that after her marriage she proceeded with her education not knowing that her husband would be President again.
The president’s wife noted that the sum of N500 billion has been earmarked by the federal government to support women and youths, saying her NGO was working to ensure that they are empowered in areas of education, health and skill acquisition.
She appealed to the state government and corporate organisations to assist the trainees with start up funds in order to enable them set up their businesses.
In her address, the wife of the Bauchi state governor, Hajiya Hadiza Abubakar, who is also the founder of Bauchi Sustainable Women Economic Initiative and Peace (B- SWEEP), thanked the wife of the President for the support she gave to the over 1,000 women and youth trainees selected from the state to better their lives.
While acknowledging the support the President’s wife has been giving to the women and youths in the state, Hajiya Abubakar informed that during Hajiya Buhari’s last visit to Bauchi, she brought food items for the people, which “we shared it to all the 20 local government areas.”
