Aiye, Eiye cult groups may clash in Ibadan, police warns

Oyo state Police Command, has warned cultists planning to cause trouble between July 7 and August 8 in the state to forget about such plans or be dealt with by the Command.


The Command in a statement by its Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Lawrence Fadeyi made available to journalists in Ibadan alerted that the intelligence reports has revealed possible cult clash in the state between a secret cult group, popularly known as ‘Aiye Confraternity’ on 7th of July, and ‘Buccaneer’, otherwise known as ‘Eiye Confraternity’ on 8th August  every year across the southwest states of Nigeria.

According to the statement, “the Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, Shina Olukolu wishes to inform the peace loving people of Oyo that the celebration of secret cult group popularly known as ‘Aiye Confraternity’ on 7th July and ‘Buccaneer’, otherwise known as ‘Eiye Confraternity’ on 8th of August every year across the southwest states of Nigeria has come to the notice of the Oyo State command and adequate security measures has been emplaced to forestall any unlawful assembly and breakdown of law and order/loss of life associated with such unauthorized activities.”


The  statement stressed further that the Oyo state police command ” wishes to reassure the people and the entire citizenry that the police in Oyo State are on top of the situation and are working assiduously to clam down on aforementioned secret cult group.


‘It is worthy of note that concerted efforts have been emplaced to respond adequately to any security threats from any of these unlawful secret cult groups who are bent on disturbing the peace equilibrium being enjoyed by the good people of Oyo State on the chosen dates of 7/7/2019 and 8/8/2019 respectively.

The command hereby enjoined all the people of Oyo State to go about their lawful businesses as the police will not give any breathing space to these unscrupulous elements to create chaos or breach of peace in any part of the state.”


The Oyo state Police Command however warned individual or group in the state to steer clear of fomenting trouble in the state and advised parents to sternly warn their children who are bent on causing mayhem on the said dates to desist from such planned dastardly acts or change their ways and refrained from testing the will and capacity of the police and security agencies in Oyo State.


Oyo Police Command assured that the police will respond adequately to any security threat and deal decisively with any threat to peace and order in the state, saying, “in the light of these, the commissioner of police consequently solicit support from the entire citizenry by way of giving useful information to the police when these cult groups known as “Aiye Confraternity” operates in Black beret with AXE inscription and 7/7 bodly written on the axe on 7th July, 2019 and “Buccaneer” known as Eiye Confraternity operates in Blue beret and yellow socks on 8th of July, 2019 in any parts of Oyo State.”
