Politics if really it is defined as the struggles for the acquisition, control and utilisation of power then Kogi East Senatorial zone of Kogi state should roll out their drums in celebration as God in His infinite mercy has provided a new political kid on the block. He is introducing a new type of political dispensation that recognises the people as the major factor in his political endeavours. This is true about the politics of Alhaji Murtala Yakubu Ajaka, the national deputy publicity secretary of the All Progressives Congress, APC. Our people have long yearned for a leader who personifies their struggles for a better life, a leader who is ready to fight the symmetric and assymmetric warfare they have. Today, our people recognise a good leader when they see one and now they have their prayers answered with the political activities of Hon. Murtala Ajaka.
With the activities of Murtala Ajaka, our people’s perception of politics as a dirty game which decent people shouldn’t engage in is indeed giving way to hope. This is because Murtala Ajaka is bringing hope to politics especially in his native Kogi state where political pessimism is giving way to optimism. He has shown time and time again that politics should be seen as a vehicle for service to the people dispelling through his political efforts and service, the notion long held but justifiably so due to the activities of past political practitioners, that politics as a game is only for rudderless scavengers, self-seeking opportunists and indolent political entrepreneurs who have come to pursue power as a means to an end and a vehicle for the acquisition of obscene wealth without any concern for the common good.
Murtala Ajaka’s political activities have defied all these known trends which are synonymously known as the bane of Nigeria’s political development. He has deployed his pro-people political dispensation to correct that impression. His politics is now generally regarded as a vehicle for his people’s development and today regarded as one of the pillars and flying jet of hope and development. Never known to be attracted to the intrigues, subterfuge, manipulations and betrayals that characterise the pursuit of power, he sees those in this category as seeking power just for the sake of it and for its glamour, pleasure, fame, wealth and opportunities to exercise dominion over others.
He is exceptional because he would never seek or pursue power just for the sake of it or expend considerable time, energy and resources in achieving or retaining power without giving much thoughts to the noble and high purpose that power can be utilised for. He has shown severally through his actions and utterances that he is different and his mission in politics is the people. Hon Ajaka does not belong to the class of politicians who have vested and self-serving interests.
He is gradually building political confidence and this he exemplified when recently our people were ravaged by the flood that rendered many homeless and hopeless. He came unsolicited and donated a huge sum of money that was used to bring relief to those affected and that is the vantage politics of Hon. Murtala Ajaka. This is to show that he is very much aware of the pain of the people and ever ready to be compassionate in their time of need. His model of politics by this action is to help elevate society to an incremental higher level of development and an act of selfless service to humanity while overriding self.
Today, in Kogi state, particularly Kogi East, people are happy that unto them a political leader is born because a man, who has contributed so much to the public good and always makes himself available for the people when urgently needed, is indeed a thing of joy. He is always concerned about government policies and programmes especially as they affect the poor and vulnerable in society.
In a widely polluted waters and seemingly bankrupt and deceptive political era and among his contemporaries, it appears to the people that Hon. Ajaka is different and symbolises the core political values of respect, commitment to all. The people always trust his views because he has shown that he is for them and stands by them come rain come shine. He is different because he has passion for critical thinking and a relentless search for transformative ideas that power should be used to actualise.
His approach to politics has been to many political analysts in Kogi state, especially Dr. Tom Ohikere, that really in our time a new political leader is born. The elders have applauded his politics and have stated that many politicians have a lot to learn from him particularly his commitment to the public good. It is evidently difficult for any among his peers to rival him today with his eloquence and fact filled political knowledge.
As the deputy national publicity secretary of the APC from Kogi state, he has meritoriously served the party to be considered as the pride of the North Central geopolitical zone which he represents for his immense contributions to the advancements of our national political development. His political appeal looms large and transcends Kogi state or any ideological, ethnic or religious boundaries. It is now difficult not to admire the compassion that drives his welfare-oriented politics.
For a man that is eternally convinced that given the depth of poverty and misery in the land and the corresponding inequalities, there is no alternative than deploying society’s resources to invest in the most vulnerable and incidentally most populous segment of society with a view to actualising their potential and transforming them into developmental assets than liabilities. This requires the massive collaboration of all leaders to invest in education, health, infrastructure, and poverty alleviation. And this is what Hon Ajaka’s politics is all about.
