Akeredolu’s ‘Arakunrin’ distraction

Before he became Governor of Ondo state, Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu, SAN, was one of the best-known lawyers in the country and a former President of the Nigerian Bar Association.

He’s also a frontline activist who had paid his dues in defence of the masses of Nigeria. He’s not known to subscribe to cheap publicity and frivolities.

It’s, therefore, a surprise when the title “Arakunrin” started showing up before his name after the election, as if it denotes something special aside from the fact that it’s the Yoruba version of ‘Mr’.

This rather pedestrian and populist title is probably the handiwork of club house friends which adds little value to the character of the serious-minded gentleman the people of Ondo state elected as their governor.

Akeredolu should please drop this cheap distraction. Ruling Ondo state is a serious assignment.
