Akpabio‘ll reclaim his mandate – APC chieftain

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress and former Secretary to Akwa Ibom State Government, Etekamba Umoren, said on Tuesday that he was confident that Senator Godswill Akpabio would reclaim his mandate at the tribunal.

Senator Goswill Akpabio, of the All Progressives Congress was defeated by Chris Ekpeyong, of the Peoples’ Democratic Party for the Akwa Ibom North West (Ikot-Ekpene) senatorial district, polling a total of 118,215 votes as against Akpabio, who scored 83,158 votes.

Dissatisfied with the results Akpabio had, through his lead counsel Sunday Ameh, filed a petition at the Election Petitions Tribunal, on the 16thof March, 2019, to challenge the results of the February 23rd National Assembly elections.

But speaking with our correspondent on phone on Tuesday in Uyo, Umoren said” there are incontrovertible evidence to proof that Senator Akpabio won the election”.

He said: results collated from the field clearly showed that Akpabio won in all the eleven wards of the Essien Udim Local Government but where APC won the results were cancelled.

“APC candidates won at the fields and collation centres but lost in the process of declaring the results in by INEC officials, this is unacceptable to us. We have all the evidence and I want to assure you that Senator Akpabio will reclaim his mandate at the tribunal”.

Reacting to Akpabio’s petitions, the PDP candidate said  he was not losing sleep by Akpabio’s petition at the tribunal.

He told his teeming supporters to “remain calm as your mandate has been rescued by the divine arrangement for peace, development and even spread of the dividends of democracy to thrive”.
