Akpeyi relishes CHAN experience

Super Eagles goalkeeper, Daniel Akpeyi, said he has fulfilled time at the just-concluded African Nations Championship (CHAN) in South Africa even without a playing time.
The nation’s representatives won bronze at the biennial football showpiece at the expense of Warriors of Zimbabwe.
Akpeyi said the championship was a great experience for his teammates as well as other teams that participated in the 16-team tournament.
“It was a great experience to me being a member of the bronze winning side at the championship.
“The fact that I didn’t get a playing time throughout the football event did nothing lower the joy of participation.
“The coaches knew what the game plan was all about that’s why they picked the players to achieve the game plan.
“At least, the championship has made us to appreciate the fact that not only are we a bundle of talents but also that talents abound in our league.
“We’ve equally come to appreciate the fact that if our league is made more vibrant, there may not be limit to the quality of players it can produce for Africa and the world.
“We’ve equally come to appreciate the quality of talents that abound in Africa as showcased by other participants at the championship,” said Heartland goalkeeper to supersport.com.
Akpeyi expressed satisfaction with their bronze winning performance at the championship.
“Of course, we wanted to be champions but winning bronze among the 16 teams that participated wasn’t a bad result.
“We’ve learnt our lessons and it can only get better in subsequent championships,” Akpeyi said.
