Akwa Ibom: Ekpenyong breaks silence over purported recall

The member representing Oron federal constituency in the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Nse Ekpenyong, has described the alleged recall process purported to be from his constituents as childish and a figment of the imagination of his detractors which should be ignored by any sane individual.

A faction from the constituency, under the disguise of Coalition for Development (C4D), had accused Ekpenyong of being incompetent and unable to engage authorities to stall the planned relocation of Ibaka Deep Seaport by the Akwa Ibom state government.

They lamented that Oron nation was being strangled by the silence of their representative particularly the relocation of Ibaka Deep Seaport.

But, Ekpenyong, who described the alleged recall as paperwork, said he was never a camera politician that goes around making noise and seeking people’s praises while doing good work for the people.

“Are they going to recall me on the pages of paper? My legacies are there to show it is not about cheap talks. What God destined you to become is only for you nobody can change it.

He noted that some of the elements unnecessarily fighting him are the very lives he has touched but regretted that they have no grateful heart.

The lawmaker, who said that his detractors are always engaging themselves in an unnecessary battle where they will be canvassing for someone who will actualize their dream which is only an insult on authorities, said they can not use him to insult another person.

He said he only believes in negotiations and dialogue which are essential to democracy and very profitable than war.

“The problem of our people is ingrate. The day you give them something, you are a good person but when you don’t have they see you as a bad person and that is why they remain where they are.

“They are complaining about the relocation of Ibom Deep Seaport. This was a grand project of Gov. Obong Victor Attah. Gov. Godswill Akpabio also came and displayed the seaport virtually everywhere in the media but nothing happened and Gov. Udom Emmanuel came, during his first term nobody heard of Ibom Deep Seaport.

“I don’t have the power to fight anybody and I believe in dialogue and negotiation. They talk about relocation, how can I make such a motion to National Assembly? such motion will be dead on arrival.

“These people are always looking for someone they will use to go and insult another person so that they come and gather in solidarity. They cannot use me.

Ekpenyong explained that he is a silent achiever that does not believe in a public show, stressing that his reward can only come from God and not human beings.

“On October 1st, I went to motherless babies’ home to celebrate with them and bought so many gifts for them too. But only for the guardians to ask me, ‘where are your cameramen?’ I told them that I don’t believe in those things but that I believe in heavenly cameras. I don’t live like a hypocrite.
