Al-Hikmah varsity seeks minister’s support in fiber optic provision

To further boost its ICT compliance, the Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin, has sought the Minister of Communications, Barrister Adebayo Shittu’s support in the provision of fiber optic cable in the school.
According to a statement by the assistant director of press, Austin Asoluka, the request was made when representatives of the University paid a courtesy visit to the minister in his office.
The minister remarked that for private universities to thrive they would need to enter into partnership with big time private sector investors.
Shittu advised them to formally write to the ministry about their request, stating the areas they would like the Ministry to intervene, and that after proper and detailed study, their request would be
channeled to the appropriate Agencies under his supervision for possible assistance and partnership.
Earlier the leader of the delegation and Deputy Vice Chancellor, Prof Ganiyu Badmus had solicited for the minister’s assistance to further realise the attainment of the University objectives.
He further briefed the minister on the challenges and impediments to realising the objectives.
The areas needing the minister’s intervention include, provision of logistic broadband cable network (Fiber Optic), partnership in the construction of digital classrooms, sponsorship for manpower development in ICT based content design and access funds to support ICT manpower development.
