Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura of Nasarawa state has directed the immediate demotion of the head teacher of Dunama Primary School, Lafia, Umar Muhammad, for alleged incompetence in directing the affairs of the school.
The Governor, who gave the directive yesterday during an unscheduled visit to the school, regretted that the headmaster allowed the school to degenerate into a state of complacency, warning that his administration would no longer tolerate such negligence.
The demoted headmaster, who could not convince the governor why punitive measures should not be taken against him, “will now serve as class teacher with immediate effect.”
“This is very unfortunate and unacceptable. My administration will not condone such negligence on the part of any civil servant in the state.

“You (Umar Muhammad) are here by demoted; you should be transferred to teach in another primary school because of incompetence in directing the affairs of the school; in this small school you cannot administer it.”
Almakura who was visibly angry with the way and manner pupils in the school were left to learn on bear flour despite available classes in the school, directed the relocation of the state universal basic education board (NSUBEB), Lafia zonal office, to a different location to enhance a condusive learning and teaching atmosphere for both staff and pupils.
He also questioned the rationale behind the operation of the Special Girls Secondary situated within the premises of the school, adding that unless he was convinced about the basis the benefitting students were selected, the school would, henceforth, be made to operate as a mixed one.
