Al-Makura kicks off women, youth empowerment project in Nasarawa

Senator representing Nasarawa south Senatorial District, Senator Umaru Tanko Al-Makura, Saturday kicked off the first tranche of project aimed at providing skills for women and youths in the zone.

Distributing the items in Lafia, Nasarawa state capital, Almakura who is the immediate past Governor of the state said the exercise was aimed at empowering women and youth of the area to be self-reliant.

Al-Makura who distributed empowerment tools to 100 people in the constituency urged the beneficiaries to make good use of the items to enhance their economic status.

He observed that even though the primary duties of a legislator was to make laws for the well-being of the people, he found it duty bound to contribute his quota in alleviating poverty among the people in the zone.

The beneficiaries were drawn from Lafia, Doma, Obi, Awe and Keana local government areas of the state.

The serving Senator said the items included 50 grinding machines and electric generators.

Senator Al-Makura also called on people to embrace peace and shun any form of political, religious and ethnic violence for the overall development of the state.

He however, thanked the people of the area for their continued support, and appealed for more cooperation with the Federal government to facilitate speedy development in the area.
