Al-Makura tasks Lafia varsity on special education

Governor Umaru Al-Makura of Nasarawa state has charged the management of the Federal University, Lafi a, to introduce a department of special education in the Faculty of Education as a result of its importance to the disabled. He gave the charge yesterday when he hosted the management of the school who were on a courtesy visit led the vice Chancellor, Prof. Sanusi Liman, at the Government House, Lafi a. Th e governor noted that “special education is an area that is highly in need of specialists that will handle the education of people living with disability.”

He said despite the huge amounts of money being spent on the education sector in the country, the standard of education was daily falling. Th e governor also assured that he will fast-track the provision of the structures at the Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital, Lafi a, in order to enhance the Department of Medical Studies in the university by donating the specialist hospital to the University as its teaching hospital.

According to him, the money will be provided in 2018 budget to complete the structures to enable easy access to the university. He, therefore, urged the university authorities to continue with the good initiative in ensuring that the university remained peaceful and focused on academic activities. Earlier, the vice-chancellor said the visit was to appreciate the governor for his contributions to the university. “We have come here to appreciate what Governor AlMakura has been doing to us; as you can see he has promised to do more,” he said. He pledged the management’s continuous support to the state government in ensuring high standard of education in the university and the entire state
