Al-Makura vows to support vocational skills

Nasarawa state Governor, Umaru Al-Makura, has vowed to support and deploy more funds to vocational skills training for youth to acquire various skills in the state.

He made the commitment at the weekend at the 6th graduation ceremony of a pet project of his wife, Mother and Child Care Enhancement Foundation (McCEF) in Lafia.

Al-Makura explained that with the current economy recession any little support given by the government will go a long way in reducing the hardship being faced by the citizens in the state.

He, equally, maintained that government would expand the scope of skills acquisition across the state towards impacting technology to a certain vocation that would be attractive to the youths in the state.

While appreciating efforts of the Governor’s wives in putting meaning to the lives of the populace across the states, Al-Makura said that their initiatives and advocacy were “things that give boost to government activities”.

Earlier, the founder of the initiative who is also the Executive Director of the Foundation, Hajiya Salamatu Al-Makura, said that the graduation of students from the McCEF skills acquisition centre was not just an avenue for funfair, but the reality of selfless services which according to her.

“My vision for McCEF was to improve the socio­economic status of family through skills acquisition and empowerment as well as to contribute my quota in reducing maternal mortality rate in the state” she said.

Salamatu also maintained that over 10,000 women, youths and children have so far benefited from the project.

Also speaking, Minister of Women Affairs, Hajiya Aisha Jummai Alhassan, expressed readiness of the ministry to support such organisation, saying “it will go a long way to better the lives of women and children in the country”
