ALGON chairman distributes food items to Eket residents

The chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Mr Frank Archibong, has distributed food items to residents of Eket Local Government Area to cushion the effects of COVID-19.

Archibong said Thursday the donation of the food items to 11 wards in Eket Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom was as a result of the stay-at-home directive by the state government arising from cononavirus.

The food items distributed included Rice, Bean, Garri and Indomie noddles.

He said the beneficiaries were the aged, widows, less privileged, widowers and vulnerables across the local government area.

Archibong represented by his wife, Mrs Bright Archibong, said the gesture was inspired by the Chairman’s concern about the well-being of the people within the period of 14 days lockdown in the state.

“The COVID 19 pandemic came almost like a thief in the night and robbed the world of her collective hard work, crippling economies and destroying lives.

“I am out to ensure that I contribute towards ameliorating the sufferings of the less privileged in the local government area,” Archibong said.

He maintained that the state government’s stay-at-home directive as a means of containing the Coronavirus was a step in the right direction.

The ALGON chairman urged indigenes and beneficiaries of the free foodstuffs to adhere to medical precautionary measures in order to stay safe from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Reacting on behave of the beneficiaries, Mrs Glory Udofa, a widow thanked the chairman for the gesture, saying that the food items would help to feed her family during the stay-at-home directive.

“I am very happy for the chairman to count me worthy, God will bless you and your family,” she prayed.

Another beneficiary, Mrs Inyang Otu, thanked the chairman for remembering them during this period, saying that the chairman meant so well for them. (NAN)
