Governor Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu of Niger state has approved the appointment of Alhaji Yusuf Nuhu as the 13th Emir of Agaie.
Nuhu’s appointment followed the death of Alhaji Muhammadu Kudu Abubakar III on March 30, this year.
The appointment of the new emir was conveyed in a statement issued yesterday by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Saidu Ndako Idris Kpaki, in Minna.
Kpaki said Nuhu’s appointment followed majority decision of the kingmakers of the emirate on April 5, this year.
Nuhu was amongst the 13 contestants from the Suleimanu Ruling House who indicated interest for the vacant position.
He polled three votes to beat two other opponents, Alhaji Nuhu Attahiru Nkochi and Alhaji Mohammed Tsadu Kawu, who polled two votes each.
Born on August 4, 1948, in Agaie town, the new emir had his primary education at Agaie Primary school (54-59), Senior Primary School, Agaie (60-61), and Post Primary School Ndayako, Bida (62-64).
He attended the famous Bida Teachers College, Bida (67-71) for Grade II teacher’s certificate, before proceeding to Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, between 1974 and 1977 for his Bachelor’s degree in Education/History and returned to the university in 1982 for his post-graduate diploma in Public Administration.
He began his public service in 1972 as a class teacher in East Primary School, Agaie, Government Secondary School, Kontagora (78-79), College of Education, Sokoto, as lecturer between 1979 and 1980.
He later transferred his service to Federal Polytechnic, Bida, as Administrative Officer from where he rose to the rank of Deputy Registrar.
Nuhu was appointed the Commissioner for Information, Social development, Youth, Sports and Culture between 1986-89 and also held the position of Director General in charge of Works and Housing ministry between 1989 and 1993.
The new emir joined the services of the central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) as Assistant Director in 1994 and held several positions, including the Branch Controller in charge of Sokoto and later Bauchi state. He retired from public service after attaining the mandatory retirement age of 60 years in 2008.
Alhaji Yusuf Nuhu was until his appointment the Nagenu of Agaie and the District Head of Goyiko.
Nuhu is married and blessed with children and is a member of the association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE).
The statement called on stakeholders and the good people of Agaie Emirate to give the new Emir all the necessary support.
