Alleged $24,000 bribery: Why EFCC should arrest other patties – Coalition

A coalition of civil society organisation under the auspices of Civil Society Groups for Defence of Human Rights, Justice and Equity, has urged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to arrest Kaduna businessman,  Alhaji Sanni Dauda (ASD), for allegedly offering bribe of $24,000 to erstwhile senator from Kaduna Central, Sheu Sanni.

Sani was arrested in December for allegedly collecting money from ASD in the name of the EFCC acting chairman, Ibrahim Magu.

Apparently reacting to the development, the coalition, in a press conference Sunday in Abuja, commended EFCC for its swift action on the matter, but demanded that ASD should as well be arrested and questioned.

Spokesperson of the coalition, Adamu Kabiru Matazu, at the press conference said ASD who willingly offer to compromise an ongoing investigation by the EFCC should be apprehended.

“We salute the promptness with which the EFCC moved to avert corruption cases, but in this case, there are two sides; the bribe take and the bribe giver, both of whom must be apprehended, haven established through the confession of Alhaji Sanni, who willingly and inadvertently offer to compromise an ongoing EFCC investigation and pending judiciary cases, hence, the need for the EFCC to move swiftly in arresting ASD for immediate prosecution . The EFCC must purge itself of criminal elements within its fold or as associates,” he said.
