Alleged child prostitution in Borno prison, Shettima inaugurates investigation committee

As a result of the alleged stories of child prostitution and forceful abortion in Maiduguri maximum Prison by an online media, Sahara Reporters, the Borno state Governor Kashim Shettima has inaugurated a 10 man committee to investigate the allegations and make their recommendation.

While inaugurating the committee at the Government House Maiduguri on Monday, Governor Kashim Shettima said “in my position as the Chief Security Officer of the state and as responsible and responsive government, it behooves on us to treat allegations with the seriousness it deserves because”

“This does not only boarder on the law but the sanctity of those inmates allegedly by those who were supposed to protect them.  This terribly exposes them to be vulnerable and helpless,” the governor said.

He said: “Sahara reporters allegedly reports that this activities and heinous crime are perpetrated by those entrusted with their care, and welfare which is totally unacceptable. This portends a great danger and something need to be done to put an end to this ugly development but punish all those involved no matter how highly  place.

“Any person or group persons found wanting will be forced to face the full wrath of the law to serve as deterrent to others “. 

The committee which has one week to complete  the assignment  has 7 term of reference,  which includes among  others  to identify those involved  in the crime,  verify the involvement or otherwise  of the prison officials and make recommendations to the government.

Responding, the state Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice Barrister Kakashehu Lawan assured that the committee would do justice to all.
