Alleged corruption: AMAC councilors insist on Candido’s probe

The legislative and the executive arms of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) have reached a truce following the recent feud between the two arms bordering on allegations of corruption that led to an attempt to suspend the chairman.

The resolution came after the National Assembly intervened through a letter to the AMAC lawmakers calling for the peaceful resolution of the crisis.

The speaker AMAC legislative arm, Mallam Abubakar Isa Baushe, during a session with journalists stated that elected representatives are to ensure the enforcement of rule of law in the council.

Mallam Baushe appreciated the members for ensuring law and order during the crises. He urged the committee set up to investigate the allegations against the chairman to ensure they work with clarity and transparency for the purpose of peace in the council.

It would be recalled that a petition was submitted to the legislative chambers by the Civil Society for Human Rights and Rehabilitation on the 21st of last month, accusing the chairman of misappropriation of funds and abuse of office.
