Alleged missing fund: Group calls for prosecution of CBN governor

A group, Transformation Agenda Support Initiative (TASI) has called on the relevant authorities to arrest and prosecute the Central Bank Governor, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, over what it described as his “reckless and disdainful” comment over alleged missing $20 billion.

Addressing the press in Abuja yesterday, national president, TASI, Kingsley Dikibo, further said Sanusi’s recent allegation was an assault on public trust.
He accused the CBNgovernor of using his office to deliberately misinform the public, thereby turning the public against the government of the day.
Dikibo recalled that his leaked letter to the public, Sanusi was out to malign the person of President Goodluck Jonathan’s government ahead of 2015 general elections.

“The spuriousness, rapidity and severity of this billion dollar allegation is, to say the least, rather suspect and deeply worrying. What is the CBN governor trying to do? Is he actually on a one-man public anti-corruption crusade?
“Is he really being politically motivated to attempt to weaken the incumbent federal government led by president Goodluck Jonathan in the run up to the 2015 general election?,” he asked.

The group therefore called on the Senate to quickly debate the motion “of vast budgetary spending by the CBN with a view to ascertaining its veracity and imposing binding sanctions.
“We also call on the Attorney-General of the federation and Minister of Justice to be on stand-by to arraign Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi before a competent Court of Law for Criminal Breach of Trust.
“We also want to give public notice of our readiness to occupy CBN very soon in protest against Sanusi Lamido Sanusi,” he charged.
