Alleged N2.1bn fraud: Court grants Dokpesi leave to travel abroad

A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja Tuesday, granted leave to Daar Communications Raymond Dokpesi, to travel for medical checkup abroad.

Dokpesi is being arraigned on charges bordering on alleged N2.1 billion money laundering.

However, when the matter was called on Tuesday, Dokpesi’s counsel, Kanu Agabi, was at another court outside and Dokpesi could not enter his defence.

Meanwhile, the prosecuting counsel, Oluwaleke Atolagbe, reminded the court that the matter had been adjourned for the defendant to open defence, only for him to get a letter that the trial would not proceed.

Countering, Ogar counsel standing in for Agabi, confirmed that the lead counsel was before an election tribunal in Taraba State, which according to him would take time to conclude.

Ogar, however, urged the court for more time to enable Agabi come for the commencement of the defence.

A pending application dated June 28 and filed by Dokpesi, to release his international passport to enable him to go for medical checkup was not opposed by the prosecution counsel, who only asked that the court imposed a substantial condition in order to ensure that the trial continues

The presiding judge John Tsoho, granted the application on the condition that the passport would be returned to the Deputy Chief Registrar of the court with two guarantors of reputes.

Tsoho then adjourned to November 12.
