Alleged N500bn misappropriation: Cabals against Emefiele’s reappointment at work – Group

A Coalition of Civil Society Organisations (CCSOs) has raised concern on the alleged letter and phone recording of the Central Bank Governor by one George Uboh, saying it is the handiwork of those against the reappointment of Godwin Emefiele by President Muhammadu Buhari.

A statement jointly signed by the president and secretary general of the coalition, Comrade Etuk Bassey Williams and Abubakar Ibrahim, respectively in Abuja Sunday, urged security agencies to ensure that the blackmailers are brought to judgment.

George Uboh, who heads a so-called non-governmental, George Uboh Whistleblowers Network, had written from Kuje prison alleging N500 billion financial misappropriation by Godwin Emefiele through a doctored audio tape by an online medium.

But in a reaction, Etuk said the audio tape was the handiwork of blackmailers whose main aim was to tarnish the image of the CBN Governor even before his his reappointment by President Buhari.

He said some major interests in the country had swarmed to take away his appointment, using all forms of allegations, adding that the organisations had been briefed that the audio was to seek means of balancing the affected balance sheet.

“We are amazed that someone that is being charged to court for allegedly producing wrong information about same person has claimed again to have access to confessional statement made by CBN on the said matter to the police.

“We see this as an act to further blackmail the CBN governor as the blackmailers have seen that the traps set to extort him failed and thus needed other means to further their evil plot,” he said.

The group urged the police to fish out collaborators within the bank who are responsible for the leaked tape so as to safeguard the integrity of the institution.

“This act to blackmail the CBN Governor should not be encouraged but rather collectively dealt with. It is now obvious that the blackmailers’ network is strong and for public functionaries to act, they must be dealt with accordingly.

Their distraction activities are what we frown at, as it is capable of making the Governor of CBN loss focus, as the time meant to focus on the reform policies he is ready to pursue this second term will be used o defend this again,” he said.

Bauchi records 3 cases of animal disease in 6 months

Bauchi state government Sunday said it has recorded an outbreak of three types of animals and birds diseases in the last six months in some parts of the state.

Permanent Secretary, Bauchi State Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Bala Lukshi said this in Bauchi in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

“We recorded what is called Equine influenza, a viral disease. But this specie is specific because every specie of animal has its own influenza.

“We have avian influenza which was recorded in 2006 in Nigeria then, after which other countries recorded swine influenza for pigs.

“But this year, for the first time we recorded equine influenza in six states in Nigeria and Bauchi state happened to be one of the affected states,” Lukshi said.

“We first recorded the disease in Gamawa local government and from all indications, the disease came through Niger Republic.

“In Gamawa, we have livestock market where horses and donkeys are being sold and we believe it’s the route where this disease came to our state.

“Other affected areas are along the borderline with Niger Republic, but we were able to tackle it,” he said.

He said the ministry sent a team of experts who took samples to the National Veterinary Research Institute, Vom in Plateau and were found positive.

“We treated the affected animals. Fortunately, it is not like avian influenza, so we were able to contain the disease and restrict it within the affected areas.
