Alleged rape by Kogi Commissioner: We won’t accept compromise- NYCN warns

The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has warned that it will not accept any form of compromise in the investigation of the alleged rape of Elizabeth Oyeniyi by Kogi State Commissioner for Water Resources, Hon. Abdulmumin Danga.

According to reports, the mother of one, Elizabeth Oyeniyi, had appealed to the commissioner to assist his family member who is also a friend of the victim on her Facebook wall.

“Honourable Abdulmuminu Daga, your kid-sis DC Adoke Lesh needs your help, you are in the right position to help especially members of your family. Sorry Sir, charity begins at home,” the posts which was circulated on the social media reads.

Narrating her ordeal to Dorothy Njemanze Foundation in a video, the victim alleged that the commissioner was shown the post and he ordered some boys to pick her and they took her and his sister from Okene to Lokoja where the commissioner personally flogged them and raped her.

NYCN in a statement signed by its President, Amb. Sukubo Sara-Igbe Sukubo, Friday charged the Kogi state governor, Yahaya Bello to ensure that justice is served. Adding that an injury to one is an injury to all.

The statement in part read “It amounts to the inhumanity of man to man considering the alleged reckless molestation and rape of young lady Elizabeth Oyeniyi by a supposed Honourable personality, mounting a whole Ministry as Commissioner of Water Resources Kogi State.

“One will expect any responsible public office holder to be very tolerant and accommodative irrespective of criticism from a citizen, a determined political leader is expected to respond to criticism with an explanation if it becomes necessary to guide the opinion of the people on any issue of concern raised, not violent raise of thugs to illegally abduct citizen to private apartments for torture, rape and merciless pounding.

“The action of Honourable Commissioner is a mess and flagrant abuse of fundamental human rights and gender-based violence. It further ridicules the Governor Yahaya Adoza Bello led administration as it portrays the cabinet mix of irresponsible personality.

“National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) as the apex youth body in the country hereby enjoin His Excellency the Executive Governor of Kogi State Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello to ensure justice is done to this case to serve as a deterrent for other animals in human skin who may be in his cabinet, state and the country at large.

“NYCN expresses confidence in the state government prompt response with an investigation committee set up to verify the authenticity of the incident and the video in circulation.

“Our leadership shall work closely with the committee to give an account of our independent investigation carried out already.

“We shall not accept any form of compromise but justice.

“We implore Nigeria youth in Adavi LG, Kogi State and Nigeria at large to remain calm as we intensify effort on the matter to ensure justice is done to this act of irresponsibility”.
