The Zamfara State Police Command has refuted the allegation made by one Zuwaira Aminu Ibrahim of Kauran- Namoda Local Government of accusing police of releasing one Kabiru Nasiru who allegedly defiled her 3-year-old Maryam Aminu.

According to the Public Relations Officer of the Command, SP. Muhammad Shehu in a statement issued to Journalists in Gusau Thursday, he described the allegation by the woman as baseless, saying the suspect is still in police net.

“The fact of what happened was that, On 24th  March, 2020, one Aminu Ibrahim “M” of Sabuwar Kaura in Kaura Namoda LGA reported to Divisional Police Station Kaura accusing one Kabiru Nasiru of the same address of defiling his three (3) year-old-daughter Maryam Aminu”.  The statement said.

According to the statement, the Police on receiving the report swung into action by taking the victim to the hospital for medical examination and treatment.

All efforts made to arrest the suspect was not successful until on  the  26th March, 2020, when the  Police apprehended the suspect and commenced his interrogation.

“The suspect and the Complainant had since been transferred to the State CID Gusau for discreet investigation after which the suspect will be charged to Court for Prosecution”. The statement stated.

The statement explained that, the Commissioner of Police received this unfounded allegation with shock, and viewed it as a calculated attempt to tarnish the good image of the police.

“The Command urges members of the public to discountenance the allegation, while a highly esteemed media organization like the VOA should endeavor to balance whatever information that comes to their way and not to be used for selfish interest”. The statement said.
