Allow internal democracy, PDP youth urge party

The National Coordinator, People’s Democratic Party National Youth Empowerment Strategy (PDP-NYES), Kabiru Sani Garkuwa, has called on the leadership of the PDP to allow internal democracy to thrive.
The group said the party can demonstrate this by being careful and fair in deciding who gets its ticket as candidates in the forthcoming 2019 general elections.
Garkuwa, who was reacting to the defections of some federal lawmakers from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to the PDP fold, said without internal democracy it would possible for impunity to reign.
“I am congratulating our great party for having the lawmakers defecting to its fold, and this is an indication that victory is coming our ways in the 2019 general elections,” he said.
According to him, the PDP, both at the state and national levels, should be very careful when it comes to fielding candidates to vie for offices in the forthcoming elections.
“As we are rejoicing over their defections into the party, it is also worthy of mention, that the party need to be very careful fielding candidates for the seats of Governors, lawmakers and Presidency, due consideration should be place on popular aspirants”, he said.
He recalled that, “imposition of candidates was part of what led the PDP lost grips of Governance in 2015, and such a mistake should not be allowed to repeat itself”.
