Alonso breaks silence on bust up between Rudiger, Kepa

Marcos Alonso has played down the training ground bust-up between Chelsea teammates Antonio Rudiger and Kepa Arrizabalaga.

As first reported by the Telegraph, the pair were separated after an altercation, with Thomas Tuchel sending Rudiger in from training five minutes before the end of the session to calm down.

The spat stemmed from a small-sided game in which Kepa was said to be the victim of a late tackle from Rudiger.

However, ahead of their huge Champions League quarter-final first leg against Porto on Wednesday, defender Marcos Alonso has quashed the talk around it and said it was “good for the team”.

“These are things that happen,” Alonso told beINSPORTS.

“This shows the level of competition there is in the team, the hunger we saw on training ground – that’s good for the team. Of course, even before training finished it was all good.

“[It is] nothing new, it has always happened, it will still happen and the thing we need to take is take the positves and move on and get ready for the next game.”

It came on the back of a dismal return to Premier League action on Saturday, when Tuchel suffered his first defeat as Chelsea boss at the hands of relegation-threatened West Bromwich Albion.
