Aluko, Nigerian-born England striker, retires at age 32

Eniola Aluko has finally called it a day in her footballing career after she left Juventus 18 months into a two-year contract to return to England.

The 32-year-old had spells with Birmingham, Charlton and Chelsea, winning five FA Cups and three English titles.

The Nigerian-born striker also played in the United States with Saint Louis Athletics, Atlanta Beat and Sky Blue FC, and won the league and domestic cup in Italy.

She has one 102 caps for the England national team and regarded as one of the greatest women players after featuring in three World Cups, two European Championships and the 2012 Olympic Games for Great Britain.

Her England career nose-dived after accusing former coach Mark Sampson of discrimination in 2016.

But she moved up in her club career with Juventus and her final major trophy was the Supercoppa Italiana in less than three months ago.

“I very much feel like I’m ending on a high, with a sense that there’s not much more I can do in the game,” she told the Guardian.

“There is nothing that could motivate me to keep playing for another two or three years aside from a love of the game, which is something I can express through other avenues.
