The Yoruba in the All Progressives Congress (APC) based in Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) have inaugurated its officials that would coordinate the activities of the South-west people, their interests and mobilisation ahead of the 2018 elections in the council.
The South-west politicians have, however, elected Barrister Awaal Muhammad as the chairman of the Forum.
Speaking in an interview shortly after the swearing in at the weekend, Muhammad described the platform as “a means to serve better the Yoruba and the general public in the Federal Capital Territory at large.”
He said the Yoruba from the South-west were “now in the main stream of politics through the effort of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, so at our own local level, we have to ensure proper organisation of ourselves.”
“I call on everybody, especially the masses which this government of APC is more concerned about, to continue to support the government of President Muhammadu Buhari and also pray for his wellbeing,” he said.
While accepting the responsibility on behalf of other executive members, Barrister Muhammad assured that his leadership would ensure that the caucus of the South-west APC in AMAC “brings about unity of purpose among the Yoruba sons and daughters.”
Addressing the members at the event, one of the political leaders, identified as Pastor Erinle, called on them to change the political future of the Yoruba in AMAC in future elections.
Other executive members elected included Idowu Patriot as vice-chairman; Sanusi Ismaila as secretary; Princes Malomo as assistant secretary; Olamilekan Fadare as treasurer; Stephen Ajayi as assistant treasurer; Alfa Abdulwahaab Abdulakeem as financial secretary, while Awape Joshep is the assistant secretary.
Others were Osonubi Oyewale as organising secretary; Oyinleye Johnson as assistant organising secretary; Coach Kamilu Amuda as publicity secretary; Ismail Oriola as assistant publicity secretary, among others.
