AMAC: LG chair tells residents what to do as Christians celebrate Christmas

The Chairman of Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Hon. Christopher Zakka Maikalangu, has advised residents of the council against engaging in crime, alcoholism and other negative vices while celebrating Christmas.

Speaking on Sunday, during a Thanksgiving service at ECWA church, Zone B, Apo Resettlement, Abuja, Maikalangu said the administration is picking up after a long legal battle, assuring residents that they will enjoy dividends of democracy in 2023, especially with regular payment of revenue to the council.

He said: “Christmas is a time to celebrate the birth of Christ and to share love. It is a time to celebrate with friends, families and loved ones. It is unfortunate that many people see it as a time to engage in unholy acts like crime, alcoholism and other social vices.

“My advice to AMAC residents is for them to have the fear of God and use this Christmas period as a time for sober reflection. They should take into consideration the fact that Jesus is the reason for the season and live uprightly.

“Though we are new in office and starting to find our feet, I urge AMAC residents to have faith in us. 2023 will be a better year. They should pay their revenues to the right AMAC accounts for us to continue providing dividends of democracy. Nigerians should also pray for God to intervene in the nation, for peace and unity. By the grace of God, we will overcome our challenges.”

Also speaking, the priest in charge of the church, Rev. Dr Markus Dada, said that the essence of Christmas is for Christians to draw closer to God because of the birth of Christ for the salvation of mankind.

“This Christmas gives us another opportunity to draw closer to God and to flee from sins. As Christians, we should endeavor to maintain a life worthy of emulation. Politics and religion go hand in hand, so Christians should also fulfill their civic responsibilities next year by participating in elections to vote for credible leaders,” he said.
