American congressmen visit Osinbajo, pledge improved relations

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo yesterday had a close-door meeting with the visiting American Congressmen at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on issues bordering Nigeria-US relations. Speaking to State House correspondents after the meeting, leader of the eight-man delegation, Christopher Coons, a Democrat Senator from Delaware, said they were in the country to learn more about security and health challenges, among other key issues. He said the delegation was in Nigeria to “off er our sustained bipartisan and commitment to the USNigerian relationship; to learn more about ongoing challenges in terms of security, and health and development; also to celebrate the opportunities, the entrepreneurship, the energy of many sectors in Nigeria from fi lm-making to job creations to innovation itself.” He said the delegation comprised Senators and Members of the House of Representatives and included Republicans and Democrats, representing “entire range of the American people.” He said the delegation had “terrifi c meeting with the vicepresident, members of the cabinet and senior advisers.”
