AMMC demolishes Wumba buildings

Abuja Metropolitan Management Agency (AMMC) yesterday demolished illegal shops, car-wash outlets, block industries and shanties in Wumba District in the Phase III of the territory.
The demolition was done in collaboration with the Development Control, Abuja Environmental Protection Board and Parks and Recreation Department.
The exercise is tagged: “Abuja Clean Up”.
Head of Public Relations, Development Control, Mr Kalu Emetu, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) during the exercise that it was intensified to ensure adherence to the master plan.
“All the relevant agencies have resolved to maintain the momentum of the exercise; this is because some residents are likely to abuse the FCT master plan if the exercise is not sustained,” he said.
“The major aim is to give the city a befitting look in line with the increased effort to maintain the master plan.
“Residents should be aware that every inch of land in the city has a purpose and people should not just encroach on any land they see,’’ Emetu said.
He said that unused plots could either be road corridors or those already allocated to some individuals who were yet to develop them.
“It is wrong for people to erect structures on such plots,” he said.
Emetu said that the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) had the cooperation of communities where illegal structures were being removed.
He said the FCTA would also ensure that all stakeholders were carried along. (NAN)
