Amotekun: NYCN commends FG, South-west Governors

The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has commended the Six Governors of South-west states and the federal government for reaching a truce over the region’s security outfit code named Amotekun, insisting that safety of the people is non-negotiable.

The NYCN also appreciates the response of the people of the region whom rather than insult and threats, engage in robust engagement and defended the governors decision in line with Nigeria laws.

NYCN south-west Vice President, Amb. Amosu Oluwatomi at the Weekend, also expressed his displeasure over the attitude of some Nigerians who instead of robust engagement, were busy insulting and intentionally heating up the polity to score cheap political point.

He said ” Amotekun is a good step in the right direction. There is no better time for the Governors of Oyo, Osun, Lagos, Osun, Ekiti and Ondo state to come together other than now, when insecurity is now at its peak in the zone.

The Vice President also demanded that ” However, it is not enough to come up with the Amotekun security outfit, all these Governors must ensure that they are well funded and fully equipped with modern security gadgets that will help curb the insecurity. They have to also look at the structure.

He continued ” Also, the state house of assembly in the six south west states should enact necessary laws to give Amotekun the required legal backing for smooth operations.

“The former Governor of Lagos state, National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu also raised critical issues on the structure and funding of the security initiative, I charge all concern to take this advice in good faith and implement it to put an end to the incessant killings rampaging the zone”.

He warned that ” Any attempt by any of these state Governors to use Amotekun against their political rivals or opponent and for their selfish interest will no doubt spell doom for the initiative. So it must be use for what it was created for.

“I must also commend the governors, federal government and other critical stakeholders who agreed to work together for Amotekun to achieve its set objectives. The agreement reach is an indication that Amotekun has come to stay, he added.
