Amotekun, youth bloody clash leaves 2 dead, 7 injured in Oyo community

No fewer than two people were feared dead in  Tapa town in Ibarapa North local government area of Oyo state,Wednesday, during a bloody clash between some youth and personnel of the Western Nigeria Security Network (WNSN), operation Amotekun.

The clash, it was gathered, left about 7 persons injured Wednesday night while the house of a member of Amotekun was razed on Thursday morning.

Also, on Thursday, angry youth in the town embarked on protest over the killing of two of their members by the Amotekun corps during which the house of a leader of the corps was razed.

Eye witness account said the bloody clash erupted during a carnival organised by some youth in the town against the ban placed on carnivals or unauthorised social gathering in and across Oyo state by the state police command.

The witness stressed that efforts by the Amotekun corps personnel and the police at dislodging the youth from the scene resulted into hot controversy between the security personnel and the youth that reportedly defied all the pleas at stopping the carnival.

According to the witness, the controversy between the youths and the Amotekun corps members turned into violence resulting in free for all and later exchange of sporadic gunshots between the rampaging youth and Amotekun corps.

When contacted, Oyo state police command Public Relations Officer, SP Lawrence Fadeyi, confirmed the killing of the two youth during the fracas.

SP Fadeyi said it was the Wednesday incident that led to the protest by the youths on Thursday during which the house of an Amotekun leader in the town was razed by the protesting youths.

The PPRO declared that men of the Oyo state police command have however restored peace to Tapa town and were as well monitoring the situation in the town.
