Anafulu hails Bashir, Chukwumerije

Moments after two Nigerians, Uche Chukwumerije and Saturday Bashir, claimed gold medal at the 2014 Belgian Open and Columbia International Championships, respectively, a board member of the Nigeria Taekwondo Federation (NTF), Mr. Anthony Anafulu, has expressed delight over the performance of both Nigerians, describing their current feats as a sign of better things to come.

Bashir won his own gold days after Chukwumerije took another giant step to add another feather to his cap.
The 2013 Korean Opens gold medalist, Bashir, defeated his opponents from Columbia 12-7 in the first fight, Chile 8-0 in the second fight before proving his superiority over Ghana 10-8 in the final to clinch gold.

Anafulu who was outstanding during his days as an athlete said: “Actually, I’m very delighted concerning their performances but I will say I’m not surprised. With this outstanding performance by two of them, we can comfortably look on to better times ahead.

It will be recalled that Bashir represented Nigeria at the 2013 World Team Cup. His performance at the 2014 US Open made him to be among the few selected athletes fully sponsored to the championships in Columbia.

The seven-day tournament which ended on Wednesday had athletes from host Columbia, Switzerland, Philippines, Nigeria, Canada, Ghana, Benin Republic, Chile, US, Panama, Venezuela, Ecuador and Guyana participating.
