Anamabra: Rotary club donates instructional materials to schools


As parts of its social responsibility, the Rotary Club of Awka Smith-Town, Rotary International, District 9142, has donated instructional materials worth of N500,000 to Central Primary School Nando, Anambra East LGA.

Delivering the materials, President of the Club, Mrs Uzoamaka Okonkwo, said the club decided to visit the school in line with rotary areas of focus of touching lives through basic education, water and sanitation, disease presentation and treatment, peace, conflict and resolution.

According to Okonkwo, Rotary International has earmarked month of September as month of basic education and literacy which necessitated the club’s move to donate learning materials to 320 pupils of the school.

Also speaking, Mr Tochi Amalu, the immediate past President of the club stressed that Rotary Club keep to its guide line of serving humanity by following every month activity it mapped to service the people optimally.

Amalu, while explaining that the month of October was mapped out for creating awareness and enlightenment  on need of immunising children against poliovirus, posited that the club was the only non governmental organistion in the world with over 1.2 million members in over 200 countries and have a well planned activities.

In their various contributions, Mr Chibueze Adirika, a charter president of the club and Mr Chidi Obiudu, incoming President of the Club, expressed optimism that the visit and materials would boost the academic and general wellbeing of the pupils.

Responding, the school Head Mistress, Mrs Uche Emeka, commended the rotary international of Awka Smith town, assuring that they would utilise the materials donated as well as apply the teachings appropriately.

Blueprint reports that the club during the visit also sensitised the pupils and their staff on importance of maintaining healthy hygiene and upholding other acceptable behavioral values.
