Anambra 2021: INEC to relocate polling units sited at Churches, private houses, others

As Anambra state 2021 gubernatorial poll draws closer, the Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC), Monday, said it would relocate about 1112 polling Units sited at churches, house of political office holders, traditional rulers houses and others in the state.
The State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC),  Mr. Nkwachukwu Orji, who stated this at a stakeholders Forum on Expansion of Voters Access to Polling Units  in Anambra, held at Awka, said the affected polling units were inappropriately sited and hinder voters’ access to voting during elections.

” Those polling units in such inappropriate places are not good for our elections. Most time, people see them as personal polling units. We want to make the polling units accessible to all voters ” he said.
According to Orji, the commission would also increase the polling units in the state from 4,608 to 5,720, even as voters registration would continue from June 28 2021  to give access to more voters .

He further urged stakeholders in the state to mobilise voters to actively participate on the November 6 governorship election.
Responding, some of the stakeholders including the State Chairman, People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Ndubisi Nwobu, and the Special Adviser to governor Willie Obiano on Political Matters, Mr. Ifeatu Obiokoye, commended the umpire for their plan to expand polling units, but adviced that stakeholders should be consulted when next they plan to take decisions for overall benefit of all.
