Anambra 2021: PDP guber aspirant vows to conduct LG poll in six months

A People’s Democratic Party (PDP) governorship aspirant on Anambra 2021 poll, Hon. Chris Azubogu has vowed to conduct election into the third tiers of the government within six months of taken over as governor.

Azubogu, who stated this while notifying executive and other top functionaries of the state PDP of his intention to govern Anambra via the platform, explained that conducting local government election was in the interest of democracy and to create more jobs for people.

The governorship hopeful, currently representing Nnewi north, Nnewi South and Ekwusigo federal constituency, said he had been an advocate and supporter of local government autonomy, which according to him, would help to drive development at the grassroots thereby reducing unemployment and insecurity.

“Anambra state is yearning for someone with the requisite experience to change the status quo. I have consulted with all stakeholders across the political parties, business, cultural elite, opinion leaders and ordinary Anambrarians. The outcome was overwhelmingly positive and spectacularly encouraging. And if the wishes of the Almighty God aligns with the wishes of Ndi Anambra on taking the state to greater heights, I will become the next governor of Anambra state come March 17, 2022.

“I want to assure you that if given the party ticket as candidate, I will work assiduously to deliver PDP. I have the capacity. As a House of Rep member for Nnewi north, Nnewi South and Ekwusigo federal constituency, I ensured that every part of my constituency has a signature project. I have reached several part of this state with key projects… I have developed a workable economic blueprint with which we shall develop Anambra state. My administration will make Anambra state an economic hub. I will industrialise the state.

“We shall no longer depend on the federal allocation because I have a blueprint that will create opportunities for Anambra to explore her human and natural resources.  In my first six months in office, I am going to conduct local government election. I have always been in support of local government autonomy at the national assembly. So, I won’t work against it if elected governor. Because a workable local government administration will create jobs at the grassroots, bring development at all levels, create more jobs and other opportunities to the teeming populace,” he added.

He, however, implored the party to embark on membership drive as well as inaugurate a reconciliatory committee geared towards bringing back aggrieved members of the PDP in the state to work in unity for the 2021 gubernatorial poll and beyond.

Responding, the State chairman of PDP, Chief Ndubuisi Nwobu, reassured that the party primary would be transparent, insisting that they would do all that is humanely possible to prevent imposition of candidate or irregularities.
