Anambra 2021: Support group backs governor, APGA on zoning

The Willie Obiano Support Group (WOSG) has backed the decision of All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) and its national leader, Gov Willie Obiano to zone the 2021 governorship ticket to Anambra South senatorial district.

The group’s national chairman, Chief Jude Emecheta, who disclosed this at a media parley Tuesday in Awka, said the people of Anambra were morally bound to allow the Anambra South to produce the next governor.

The group said zoning the ticket to the senatorial district would be in line with the zoning spirit of APGA and in the interest of fairness and equity.

He said the party had done well in Anambra to deserve the renewed mandate of the people, adding that what the state needed now was consolidation on the success of APGA instead of returning to the dark ages.

The group said the first way to the victory in the next gubernatorial election in Anambra was to zone the ticket to Anambra South senatorial district, noting that any party that denied candidates from the zone would face serious rejection.

“WOSG is happy with the decision of the APGA and our leader Chief Willie Obiano to zone the ticket for governorship to Anambra South Senatorial District.

“It is moral for Anambra to support the South District for governorship come 2019 election.

“APGA has been able to create the best environment for businesses to thrive in the geopolitical zone businesses having been springing up and employment for our youths, people are coming in now to patronise our markets because they are now more comfortable.

“The north owes APGA gratitude for being the party that gave it a chance to produce governor, the Central District also owes APGA gratitude for giving Peter Obi the platform for full eight years to govern Anambra,” he said.

The WOSG chairman said this was the time the entire Anambra should in turn reward APGA which enthroned equity through zoning by backing the party to allow Anambra South to produce the governor.”

Emecheta said APGA remained the party to beat in Anambra judging from the place it occupied in the minds of the people and the sterling performances of the government it formed in the state since 2006.

The group’s national chairman said Anambra South had prospective candidates who were eminently qualified for the topmost political office in the state irrespective of their political affiliations.

Emecheta said any governor from the district would work across the three zones and consolidate on the development in the state because no area could be said to be grossly underdeveloped now.

He urged the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Anambra to shun negative criticisms aimed at destabilising saying it is inimical to the common good of the people.
