A-45-year old man, Mr Nnaemeka Okoli of Umuchu, Aguata LGA, Anambra state has been drowned by flood at his country-home. According to sources, the corpse was said to have been found where it was dumped at the boundary between Osete and Ugwuakwu villages, both in Umuchu community on weekend.

The source further explained that the deceased, a trader at Nkwo market Umuchu, had at about 7pm on the fateful day, shut his shop as it was raining heavily and night was fast approaching and left for his house and midway, fell into a deep drainage system which was full to its capacity with fast moving flood and got drowned immediately.

“His where-about was not known and as his family got tired of waiting for his arrival from the market, went to sleep and handed over the entire thing to God until the next morning when a search party was set up leading to discovery of his corpse,” the source said.

Reacting to the unfortunate incident, the Anambra state Chairman, Civil liberties

Organization, CLO, comrade Vincent Ezekwueme said the death could be linked to improper channeling of flood by a contracting firm which handled rehabilitation of Umuchu road executed by the state Government.

Ezekwueme said, “There should be proper channeling of the flood. This man had closed his shop and left because it was raining heavily and night was fast approaching not knowing that it was death that was knocking on the door until he was washed away by the devastating flood and the corpse has since been deposited at a morgue in Umuchu.”
